Waisome picks up three big offers

If you haven’t been paying attention this spring, Nick Waisome has been blowing up the camp and combine circuit. Waisome is a 5-10, 165 pound CB from South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. This week the class of 2011 star received news that he had picked up three big time offers.
“My coach told me to call Coach Barrow at Miami and I didn’t really know what it was for,” Waisome said. “He came out to one of our practices during the spring. I called Coach Barrow and he told me that they are verbally offering me. I thought that was pretty cool and I didn’t believe it at first. It’s kind of crazy because he only got one good look at me. I’m excited because it’s my first offer and hopefully more start to come. The FSU and UCF offers were big offers as well. I have three offers so I’m pretty excited about checking out each school.”
The last two years, the University of Florida have benefited from the talent at South Lake High School. Jeff Demps signed with the Gators in 2008, and in 2009 they signed Jonotthan Harrison. Despite the fact that Florida has two former South Lake alums, Waisome isn’t in any hurry to follow in their footsteps.
“Florida is a school that pops out but I’m not going to go where my friends want me to go,” he said. “I’m going to go to the place where I feel at home the most. They definitely pop out though because I have visited there so many times. It’s the closest school to me and it’s a good environment there. Other schools have good things too, so I have to see what those schools have to offer.”
Being that Waisome is a class of 2011 prospect, he has plenty of time before he makes a decision. However, he is ready to name a top five and there is one school that currently stands out.
“My top five would be Miami, Florida, Florida State, UCLA, and USC. Since Miami offered they have a slight lead right now,” he said. “I’m definitely going to wait until my senior year before I decide. I’m not going to be committing any time soon.”
This past season Waisome didn’t get a chance to showcase his skills at cornerback. The rising junior spent time at wide receiver but made the switch to cornerback right before the combines in January. If this spring has been any indication, he will get a chance to showcase his coverage skills on a number of college campuses this summer.
“I’m going to Florida next week but I should be heading to Miami as well,” said Waisome. “I am visiting Florida State this summer and I plan on attending Florida’s Friday Night Lights as well.”
