Takoby Cofield is a 6-6, 288 offensive lineman from Tarboro High School (NC). Cofield currently has two “official” offers but for this class of 2010 prospect, that should change during the spring evaluation period.

“All of the schools are recruiting me as a tackle,” Cofield said. “When North Carolina first started recruiting me, they were recruiting me as a guard. Now everyone is recruiting me as a tackle. East Carolina and Duke are my only official offers and North Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech have verbally offered. They are waiting to officially offer me when I either visit or when they can evaluate me one more time.”

Currently one in state school is recruiting Cofield the hardest but it’s the rival of that school that he grew up cheering for. However, despite his childhood allegiance Cofield isn’t ready to name a top school.

“Duke has recruited me the hardest so far,” he said. “Growing up, I was a big North Carolina fan in every sport. They have a winning tradition, and offer a great education. There isn’t anything bad about them and even when they have a down year it is better than other people. They are always looking to build and become better and it’s just a really great school. The way that I separate schools is if you have offered and if you haven’t offered. I understand if you are interested but once you offer you kind of get put on a pedestal and I consider you more than I would a school that hasn’t offered yet.

Recently Cofield spoke with Penn State and is hoping that they will offer along with Alabama, and Tennessee. With only a few visits to a trio of instate schools in the books, Cofield hopes to use this summer to visit all of the schools that are recruiting him.

“I’ve visited North Carolina, East Carolina, and Duke so far,” he said. “I’m going to visit a lot of schools this summer like Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina. Just about every school that’s recruiting me on the east coast, I’m going to try and visit this summer. I’m definitely going to try and visit Virginia and Virginia Tech though.”

When he visits each school this summer, there are a couple of things that he is looking for. While he’s not in any rush to make a decision, he’s confident that after the summer he will be ready to announce his choice during Tarboro’s first football contest of the season.

“The biggest thing for me is academics,” said Cofield. “After academics, the next biggest thing is coaching. I want to play for a coaching staff that can maximize my potential and for a program that has a winning tradition. After I take all of my visits this summer and if I have the same offers, I’ll be announcing my decision on August 14th the night of our Jamboree.”
