Hunter about to become the hunted

Another talented class of 2010 prospect in North Carolina has emerged onto the scene as of late. That prospect is Fre`Shad Hunter from Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina. The 6-4, 250 pound DE made the switch from LB to DE last season and ended up earning All-Conference honors with 60 tackles and seven sacks. As the spring approaches, Hunter is sure to get even more attention.

“The only offer I have so far is from NC State,” said Hunter. “I want some of the Florida schools to offer me. It would be cool to have offers from some of the Florida schools and the schools down south like Georgia and LSU. It would also be cool to get offers from the schools close to home like North Carolina, and Duke. Getting an offer from USC would be nice too. Right now I don’t have a list of top schools. I want to find a school that has a good defense. I also want to find a school that has a good degree and a safe environment.”

While Hunter isn’t ready to name a top school, it’s probably a pretty safe bet that NC State will be in the mix. The Wolfpack were the first to step up to the plate and offer the talented junior.

“I’ve been an NC State fan all of my life and they have been recruiting me the hardest,” he said. “It’s close to home and they were the first to offer me.”

Despite his allegiance to NC State, his favorite player is a former North Carolina standout.

“Julius Peppers is my idol, he’s a beast,” said Hunter. “Every play he can’t be stopped and he goes hard all of the time. I’m a lot like that.”

Recently Hunter was listed as one of the top 100 players in the nation. That’s quite an honor and you can be sure that Cary High School will be a hot spot for college coaches this spring. This spring and summer, Hunter hopes to visit a number of schools but he isn’t in any hurry to make a decision.

“I don’t think I’m going to make a decision as a junior,” he said. “I think I’m going to ride it out until my senior year and see how the recruiting process is going. I’m going to take some visits this spring and summer. I don’t know which schools yet but it would be cool to visit some Florida schools. I know I’m going to visit schools like Alabama, Clemson, Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.”
