The 6-2, 213 pound safety from Charlotte, North Carolina decided it was time to make his decision on Monday night. Clemson survived a late push from the Michigan Wolverines and DeVonte Holloman said that location played a big factor in his decision.

“Clemson is a place where I could see myself being even if I wasn’t going to play football,” Holloman said. “Clemson is football and school oriented and that’s exactly how I am. The team is focused and the location is close to home. Its two hours away and my parents can come to the games and see me play. My top two were Clemson and Michigan and they were the same type of schools. Michigan was ten hours away and Clemson was two hours away, so that’s what it came down to. I’ve been thinking about it and I talked to my family and Clemson benefited me as a person even if I wasn’t going to play football. I always said that when I felt like I was ready to make a decision and felt comfortable that I wouldn’t mind putting it out there. I stuck to my word and did a good job of that.”

Holloman is now focusing on spring practice as well as helping Clemson recruit the best class in the nation. Holloman is close friends with Rock Hill (SC) athlete Stephon Gilmore and he happens to be a Clemson target as well. There have been rumors that Gilmore and Holloman would like to attend the same school and Holloman is going to talk with him as well as recruit some other local area Clemson targets.

“I’m trying to get (Stephon) Gilmore next and Jheranie Boyd, (Xavier) Nixon, and some of those guys,” he said. “I want to have fun and help put together the best recruiting class that’s out there. I spoke with Stephon at the camp Saturday and he gave me two or three schools that he was interested in and Clemson was one of them. He texted me today and heard that I committed. As a friend I want to find out what’s going on and give him advice. At the same time, I’m not going to pressure him because I didn’t like anybody pressuring me.”

Despite an early commitment, there’s no need to worry about Holloman changing his mind. He is comfortable at Clemson and plans on graduating early and enrolling in January. Holloman really won’t have a break from football this year as he will transition from his high school football season, to the Under Armour All-American game, and then onto spring practice at Clemson.

“Ever since I was little my dad preached to me that a man is only as good as his word,” said Holloman. “My coach said that once I committed that was it and he wasn’t going to allow anyone else to come in and recruit me. I felt like Clemson is the place for me and I’m going to stick with them. Clemson is perfect for me and made me feel like I could be there the first time I walked on their campus. I’m not sure if I can attend Clemson’s 3 day camp coming up, but I might come up for a day and hang out. My plan is to graduate early and enroll there and right now everything is in order to do that.”
