James Washington is one of the top running backs in Central Florida this year. After a highly productive junior year last season, the Orlando Boone standout is starting to get some attention from a number of college programs. Washington has agreed to give AthleteVault.com an inside look at his recruitment through a recruiting diary. In the latest edition of his recruiting diary, James Washington talks about his visit to Florida Atlantic this past weekend.

“This past weekend I attended FAU for their Junior Day and their last spring game as well.  I got a chance to meet Coach Serna after talking with him on the telephone several times. Coach Serna and I talked about the similar offense that they run, their depth chart, and the new construction on their stadium set to open in 2010. I took a tour of Florida Atlantic and I really enjoyed the scenery.  I was able to attend a team meeting and experienced first hand how a college pre-game meeting feels. After I sat and watched the spring game, I noticed that they run a lot of screen plays and they tried to get the running backs the ball.  I was able to go inside the weight room and I was really impressed with the weight lifting coach and the program that he has designed for the players. I also visited the dorms for the players and they have a lot of room for the players to relax. I also had a chance to meet Coach Nord, who is the offensive coordinator.  We meet Coach Schnellenberger and talked about how he likes to pick his players from Florida and how he is trying to build FAU up to be a top competitor in college football. He wants players that want to compete and that want to win another conference championship and go for the National Title. Coach Serna said that I have a great chance at competing for a starting position if I am ready my freshman year.  I really enjoyed my visit with FAU and was very impressed.”
