Winter Springs High School in Florida has some impressive talent for the 2009 class. One of their top players is Cain Elliot, a 6-1 175 pound safety, that prides himself on hitting just like the late Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor. Elliot finished last season with 37 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 5 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles. He has a top 5 and is receiving a lot of interest as of late.
“I don’t have any offers right now,” Elliot said. “I’ve received interest from LSU, Auburn, West Virginia, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State. Auburn and Mississippi State are recruiting me the hardest. Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and Miami are my top schools. I like Auburn’s facilities and surroundings and team wise they have a defense that fits my style. I also like the Defensive Coordinator from Auburn and I like their style of defense.”
Despite having a top 5, Elliot isn’t ready to make a decision yet. He wants to see each school and really make sure that each school fits with what is important to him.
“I want to take all my visits to the colleges and look at the surroundings and how they are academic wise,” he said. “I want to see the difference of a college town and a big city. Academics, team style, and the coaches are what I am going to be looking for in a school.”
Growing up, Elliot was a Georgia Bulldog fan. He’s a big fan of Coach Richt and loves their swagger on defense. Even though Georgia was his favorite team, he models him game after the former Miami Hurricane Sean Taylor. Like Taylor, Elliot’s biggest strength is his tackling and he wants to work on his breaks and ball skills before he goes to college.
Next season, the Winter Springs Bears will have one of the most talented teams in Central Florida. They finished the season 7-3 last season and play a number of talented teams such as Lake Brantley, Oviedo, Seminole, Timber Creek, Lake Mary, and Boone in a kickoff classic. Aside from getting ready for next season, Elliot has taken a number of visits and will continue to make more next week and another one this summer.
“I’ve visited Auburn and UCF so far,” Elliot said. “Auburn was the best visit and they impressed me from an academic and football standpoint. I’m supposed to go back to Auburn next weekend for a combine and I am going back there again for a camp in the summer.”
