James Washington is one of the top running backs in Central Florida this year. After a highly productive junior year last season, the Orlando Boone standout is starting to get some attention from a number of college programs. Washington has agreed to give AthleteVault.com an inside look at his recruitment through a recruiting diary. In the latest edition of his recruiting diary, James Washington talks about his visit to USF this past weekend.

“This weekend I had the opportunity to visit USF to check out their spring game. I was blown away when we arrived at The Raymond James Stadium.  All of the recruits met in the gathering room and Coach Leavitt came in and greeted us.  He also thanked us for coming and told us what he expected from us if we were going to attend USF.  Coach Leavitt wanted to let us know that he wanted us to get an education first and that playing football was a plus.  He made sure that we understood that getting an education should be your main priority when choosing a college to attend.  After we all were dismissed to attend the White and Green game, I got a chance to talk to Coach Leavitt one on one about the USF football program and their academics. Coach Leavitt thinks my leanness is good and thinks my speed and strength will pay off at the next level.  He reiterated that he wanted his players to excel on the field as well as in the classroom. He asked me how much I weighed and I told him.  I also told him that I wanted to get up to 185 -190 pounds, but that I was going to make sure that I kept my speed. He stated that would be a good size and I was able to give him an updated highlight tape to re-evaluate me.  I really enjoyed watching the Green and White game and their offense is a mix of run and pass. They run a lot of zone play and off tackle which I am familiar with. The Bulls should do well this year and compete to win a Big East Championship. I am hopeful USF can finish the season in the Top 5 in the BCS.  I am visiting FAU on 04/19/2008 and I am looking forward to seeing their program.”
