Corey Gattis is a 5-10.5 168 pound athlete from Durham Hillside High School in North Carolina. Last season, he played quarterback for Hillside but he is being recruited as an athlete by a number of schools.

“I’d prefer to stay on the offensive side of the ball and play quarterback or receiver, but I can play defensive back also,” Gattis said. “Presbyterian has offered and they are recruiting me the hardest along with Duke, and Clemson. Right now, I really don’t have any top schools. I am just trying to keep them all open.”

Growing up in North Carolina, Gattis pulled for college team from his home state. He not only cheers them on in football, but basketball as well.

“I always pulled for UNC (North Carolina) growing up,” he said. “They are just a fan favorite and my mom works there. I always liked them in basketball and I pull for them in football too.”

On the field Gattis models his game after Michael Vick because of his athleticism. Gattis has a strong arm, good speed (4.4 40 time), and is a great leader on the field. He plans on working on gaining weight before he plays at the college level. He’s already visited a number of schools and plans on taking a visit to another spring game this weekend.

“I’ve visited Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida last Saturday for their spring game,” he said. “Clemson and Florida were the best visits so far because of their football atmospheres. Next weekend I am either going to go to Clemson or Duke for their spring game. I haven’t decided on which one yet.”

Despite having Florida and Clemson as his best visits, there is one coach from a different school that has caught his attention.

“I’ve really hit it off with Coach Scottie Montgomery (WR Coach) at Duke,” Gattis said. “He’s one of the people that you can come to for anything. It doesn’t have to be about football, it could be anything and he’d help me out with it.”

These visits have been good for Gattis as it has allowed him to see what each school has to offer. He has a list of things that he is looking for in each school and once he has found it, he will make his decision.

“The things I am looking for are location, my parents and how they like the school, the atmosphere, and where the best place to graduate from would be,” he said. “I want to find a school where getting a degree from there would create a lot of job opportunities. I haven’t decided on when I will choose yet. I’m not sure if it will be before the season, during the season, after the season, or on signing day. I’m not sure; I’ll just do it when the time is right.”
