James Washington is one of the top running backs in Central Florida this year. After a highly productive junior year last season, the Orlando Boone standout is starting to get some attention from a number of college programs. Washington has agreed to give AthleteVault.com an inside look at his recruitment through a recruiting diary. Here’s the first edition of the diary after his visits to Florida and Auburn…

“Last Saturday I visited Florida. I went to see my ex-teammate Jeremy Brown and how the offense is coming along with the running game. I think JB (Jeremy) is adjusting to the speed of college quickly. I was impressed with how they are trying to develop a strong running game to go with their air attack. After their practice was over I got a chance to meet Coach Urban Meyer. He seems like a nice coach. I also took a picture in the swamp and with Tim Tebow. The swamp is an amazing stadium and I would love to play in that stadium! This weekend I'm going to Auburn to see one of their scrimmages and take a tour of the school. I just got through talking to the FAU (Florida Atlantic) RB coach. I think FAU would be a nice school to go to. They run a similar offense that I am used to. I'm going to make a visit there on April 19th.”

“This is my new updated list of schools that are recruiting me…Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida Atlantic, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Wake Forest, and Western Michigan.”

“This weekend I went to Auburn's A-Day. I got a chance to talk to Coach Gran, Coach Price and Coach Franklin. Coach Gran wants me to come to their football camp over the summer. He said that he knows that I can run the ball and they want to see if I can catch at the camp. This year the RB's are going to be doing a lot more catching in this new offense. The camp will give me a chance to be coached by Coach Gran. Coach Price is coming down to watch me play in the spring. Coach Franklin wanted me to know in the A-Game that there wasn't going to be a lot of running since the main RB's were hurt. He was impressed with my stats on the year and wanted to see my highlight tape. After meeting all the coaches, a tigerette took me and my family on a tour of the facility. They have an amazing athletic department filled with a large weight room, and study rooms that oversee the three practice fields. Auburn grows there own type of grass that’s only found on their practice field and game field. At the game, I saw first hand how the RB's warm up and get ready for a game. They used the spread and their old formations. The RB has to be fast to run the spread the right way. I believe I can make an impact in Auburn's Offense.”
